About the athlete

Liz McTernan

Team GB Paralympic Triathlete

Liz lived in lots of different places when she was growing up, including Canada. She had an accident when she was younger which left her paralysed and needing to use a wheelchair all the time. After trying lots of different adaptive sports, including archery and skiing, she settled on triathlon. Liz has won many medals and has competed in many challenging races. She is most proud of being only the second female wheelchair athlete to complete the Ironman World Championships course in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in 2018. Liz loves exercising outdoors, in particular open-water swimming, and has recently qualified as a swimming teacher.
